What was your athletic background prior to playing roller derby?

I had never been on skates before I decided to do this. I used my recent weight loss as motivation to try something new (not that being smaller is a requirement for playing) and go out of my comfort zone.

What aspect of derby do you enjoy the most?

Learning a new skill that not a lot of people can say they do. Having an instant group of friends. I moved to Ohio from CA and my first day here was the first day of Skater Tots. It made me feel less alone since I only knew 2 people when I moved here. The support you receive on a game level as well as a personal level can't be matched anywhere else.
