Get to know Rainbow Fright...

What is the meaning behind your skater name?

I'm a child of the '80s and I like rainbows and creepy things. Seemed fitting!

What was your athletic background prior to playing roller derby?

I didn't play sports or work out at all before joining derby. Since joining derby, I've ran a 50K ultramarathon (4th place overall woman, holla!), a few half marathons, trained in Brazilian jiu jitsu, and occasionally do rock climbing.

Is there a song that gets you pumped up before a bout?

As a former member of the Cleveland Steamers (RIP), we skated out in bouts to "Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphy's a few times and it still gets me pumped.

What aspect of derby do you enjoy the most?

The physical and mental challenge of the game, and the camaraderie and community of the league and sport.

How did you get started in your roller derby career?

I watched a friend (DameGerous) skate in a game in 2008 and immediately signed up. I retired in 2013, but just returned because I'm obviously shooting for a Guinness World Record for longest retiree break before a comeback.
