How long have you been skating?

I joined the Glass City Rollers in Toledo in 2013 and transferred to Burning River Roller Derby in 2015.

What is your favorite derby moment?

My first bout after I broke my leg. It was the first time that my non-derby friends watched me skate, and it was the first time that I felt like a “real” derby girl.

What is your pre-bout routine? Any rituals?

Making sure my health insurance card is in my wallet.

What does your derby name mean?

I’m a family nurse practitioner. Florence Nightingale has always been an inspiration to me in my career, and it’s my goal to bring her poise, tenacity, and ingenuity to the track.

How important is derby in your life?

I love derby almost as much as I love my dog (i.e., a lot).

What advice would you give to someone looking to begin their roller derby career?

When I was thinking about joining, I got a text message from a college friend/derby groupie/personal cheerleader that forced me to swallow my insecurities and pragmatism: “Let this be the one crazy thing you do.” I did, and I’ve loved it. You will, too.

Anything else we should know about you?

I broke my left tibia and fibula skating at a scrimmage in Detroit in 2014. I had a total of 5 surgeries to repair my lower leg with titanium plates and a skin graft.
