Our travel season began on February 11th with two exciting bouts against the newly formed Akron Roller Derby. The All-Stars started with an early lead, but Akron surged back in the second half to win with a final score of 195-124. Despite a rough start, the HazMat Crew narrowed the difference in a hard-fought second half versus the AK Rowdy Rollers to fall 188-152 at the end of the bout. Ice Ice Abby and Lucky Harms took home MVP Jammer and Blocker awards for the All-Stars, while Dee Crypt and Dottie HitSomeone each received MVP Jammer and Blocker Awards for HazMat Crew.

The All-Stars took a solo trip to Beckley, WV in March to face off against the Beckley Area Derby Dames, falling 244-64. Killer Queen and Carmina Piranha were awarded MVP Jammer and Blocker Awards.  Not two weeks later, the All-Stars faced another tough challenge as they hit the track to take on the Purple Reign All-Star skaters of Gem City Roller Derby from Dayton, ending with a final score of 313-98. HazMat took the track next, holding off Gem City for most of the bout until an exciting final jam put Gem City’s Violet Femmes on top with a final score of 178-172. Killer Queen and Heathen were praised with MVP Jammer Awards, while Carmina Piranha and Dottie HitSomeone took home MVPs for their blocking.

We finished the final leg of the travel season April 1st after two bouts against the DuPage Derby Dames of Illinois. Both All-Stars and HazMat fell to DuPage with scores of 186-147 and 260-251. CoCo Sparx and Carmina Piranha were awarded MVP Jammer and Blocker for the All-Stars, and Youngstown Tune-Up and Dottie HitSomeone received MVP Jammer and Blocker awards for Hazmat Crew.  The trip also gave skaters a chance to reunite on the track with former Burning River Skater FuzzKill, who transferred to DuPage after a move to Chicago last season.

Our home season will start on May 6th with a rematch against Gem City Roller Derby, at the C. E. Orr Ice Arena in Euclid. For tickets, visit http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2933551.
