LAKEWOOD, Ohio – Burning River Roller Derby (BRRD) is hosting an art auction fundraiser Saturday, March 12, 2016.

Flashback to the Future: Art Auction Fundraiser will feature a 1980s theme, reminiscing on BRRD’s decade of good times and league growth while also looking forward to future roller derby domination. While the artwork ranges in style and genre, the theme is totally ‘80s. Costumes are highly recommended but not required.

The silent auction features artwork created especially for this event by local artists and current and past members of BRRD, as well as music by DJ Aleks Klax and entertainment by host MC Jables. Snacks will be provided and drink tickets will be available for purchase (IDs required). Admission is free; all ages welcome.

The reception and silent auction will take place from 7–11 p.m. at The Good Goat Gallery, 17012 Madison Ave., Lakewood, Ohio, 44107. New this year, artwork will be on view during a special preview exhibition March 9–12, from 1–6 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction will directly benefit Burning River Roller Derby, Cleveland’s premier flat track roller derby league. BRRD is owned and operated by skaters, referees, and volunteers who provide athletic training and public gaming opportunities for northeast Ohio.

BRRD’s operating revenue is based on member dues, sales from public bouts, sponsorships, and fundraisers. All revenue goes toward rental space, training, and bout production; the league does not have any paid players or employees. The league belongs to the international Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and plays by WFTDA rules.
