Meet Luz Cannon of The Hellbombers
Q:How did you get into derby?
I started in April of 2009 with wRECk at Brunswick Skate Station.
Q:What was your first 2011 bout at the Wolstein like for you?
Uber exciting, I had a travel bout under my Skinz so I wasn’t as nervous but extremely excited!
Q:Pretty crazy having all of those fans out there, making such a ruckus, huh?
I absolutely love how the Hellbombers get boo’d when we come out… It’s like getting a ton of high fives.
Q:Just a few months ago, you were watching your first practices, and now, here you are, a full-fledged “Baby Bomber.” What is it like to see yourself come so far?
I’m very proud of myself, definitely all the determination and hard work I put into fresh meat has really paid off.
Q:What about being on a team is different than you expected as a “fresh meat”?
So much to learn, so so much. The strategy and bonding on a team is amazing.
Q:Would you mind sharing your most humbling moment in derby?
During a Hazmat away bout in Indiana our jammer got hit so hard her jammer panty came off and huge rookie mistake, I grabbed it off of the track and threw it off so that no one would trip over it.
Q:Is there an opponent that still leaves you intimidated?
I have to say that I got popped by Ms. Dagney Taghurt and it still…. hurts!
Q:Who has been your derby mentor?
My Bomber Mama of course Ms. Coco Sparks AKA Sparkles.
Q:What has been your biggest challenge in derby so far?
Balancing practice and bout schedules with work and family. Everybody wants a piece of me.
Q:Tell our fans one fun fact about you.
I absolutely hate wearing pants!
